Short biography:

Nick Aladin was born in St-Petersburg, Russian Federation (1954). He earned his M.Sc. degree in zoology at the University of St-Petersburg (1976) and his Ph.D. degree in zoology at the Zoological Institute of Russian Academy of Sciences, St-Petersburg (1979). Dr. Sc. degree (super Ph.D) he defended in the same Zoological Institute in 1995. He is currently professor of zoology and head of the Laboratory of the Brackish water Hydrobiology (Zoological Institute of Russian Academy of
Sciences, St-Petersburg). He has authored or edited seven books and over hundred other scientific publications. His research centers on the ecology, osmotic and ionic regulation of brackish, marine and halophilic Cladocera and Ostracoda and the hydrobiology of brackish and hypersaline environments. He also studied palaeontology of Crustacea and palaeolimnology of Aral and Caspian Lakes as well as marine biology of Black, Azov and Baltic Seas.
